What Are HTQ'S

Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) are Higher national certificates and diplomas (HNC and HND) which are jobfocused, employer-approved courses at Level 4 and 5, designed to give you the skills needed for in-demand careers in sectors like Business, Computing, Digital, Health Engineering and a lot more — a fast-track alternative to a traditional degree. A Higher National Diploma (HND) is equivalent to the first two years of a university degree, meaning you can progress directly to a Top-Up degree to achieve a full Bachelor’s qualification. HTQs offer a flexible, practical route to higher education and career advancement — ideal for students looking to enter the workforce sooner or upskill for growing industries.
When applying for a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ), it’s important to understand that entry requirements vary depending on your academic background. Whether you start at the Higher National Certificate (HNC) level or progress directly to the Higher National Diploma (HND) will be determined based on your qualifications and previous study. Once your application is submitted, the university will assess your documents to confirm your starting point
HTQ programmes are typically completed over one to two years on a full-time basis. Please speak with your advisor to check the availability of daytime, evening, or weekend classes, as options may vary by course.
For English proficiency, a minimum score of 55 on the university’s internal English exam is required. However, applicants with an IELTS certificate (with no band below 5.5) or an English Functional Skills Level 2 certificate may be exempt from taking this test. This can change without notice so please do contact us for up to date information.
